Brendan has 20 years’ professional experience as a Decarbonisation and Sustainability consultant and subject matter expert.
He is Managing Director of Decarbonate, a boutique Perth based consultancy focussed on ESG and climate change advisory services, and delivering professional training, to companies operating in the mining, energy, manufacturing and transport sectors.
Brendan is 1 of 4 people in Australia to sit on the GRI’s Mining Sector Standard working group.
That new standard was released in February 2024, setting a new best practice ESG standard for mining companies.
He has also contributed to the development of the GRI’s climate change, energy and GHG emissions topic standards. Prior to joining Decarbonate, Brendan was a Director at PwC, who formed and led PwC’s Sustainability and Climate Change Team in Perth.
Decarbonate is a registered training Partner with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) – the best practice ESG standards providers that is used by 80% of the ASX100 listed companies.

Brendan represents the GRI as an expert speaker at industry conferences periodically, speaking to Net Zero and ESG issues, international trends and ways to navigate the landscape of standards and regulations in an efficient manner.
His 20+ years Decarbonisation and ESG consulting experience includes 9 years in the UK/Europe advising major industrial energy users/manufacturers, and national and state government agencies on net zero strategies and investments.
He has an additional 11 years experience back in Australia where he has worked with a range of mining companies and government departments.
His international experience allows him to see the bigger picture including policy and regulatory links between Australia and other countries – to help to prepare for future regulatory change, and growing expectations from stakeholders.
